Gig Reviews

Guestbook etc

Hmmm i just thought that I should have a page of gig reviews... so here it is. What I can remember, at least

I realise this page is just a tad pointless as most of u won't be interested or will have gone to the gig with me... but hey, I'm bored, so here's another page.

Below is Darryn at the free Serafin gig last... September

-------FUTURE GIGS-------

Wooo... I'm going to Reading!! I got my ticks a couple of weeks ago... I'm going to the whole thing... so excited! Hopefully they'll be some good bands as well. Atm it looks like I'm going with Fran, not sure about anyone else. I know a load of other people are going... so should be cool anyway. So... yey!

Fran's also mentioned something vaguely about a Razorlight gig in the summer, which I'm definitly up for.

And these aren't confirmed future gigs... these are just bands that i've decided that i've gotta see at some point:
QOTSA, Coldplay, GOTR, Audioslave, Green Day, Incubus... thats all I can think of atm, but I'm sure theres more.

-------GIG REVIEWS-------

**Serafin, supported by... a band... at The Pleasure Unit, Bethnall Green on June 17th 2004**

ok... it was IMMENSE (of course..). Bumped into Chris (Serafin boardie) after I got off the tube (good thing too or else I would have been wandering aimlessly around all night!) Got there when it was supposed to start (8ish) - it was in a reeeally small pub, but it was pretty full. But it didn't start... they did sound checks, then stopped to watch the sodding football. And it wasn't even England playing! Grrr anyway the support didn't really start til about 9.30ish - no idea who they were, but they were kinda random and cool. I shall have to find out who in case they have some cheapo CDs floating about anywhere... anyway, then Serafin came on, played a fair bit of new stuff. Obviously it's hard to tell live stuff, but it sounded pretty good - a little more Stonysleep-esque than No Push Collide, but full of potential... can't wait! I need new music! Anyway, unfortunatly we had to leave before the end of the set because last trains left at 11.30ish and we didn't want to risk being stranded in London... but I got to hear Day by Day, Lethargy, Drug Dog Handler, No Happy and Sage Waits... I wanted to hear Things Fall Apart but apparently they didn't play that one at all *shock horror*. But anyway... yeah... thats the gig. Woot!

**Hundred Reasons, supported by Biffy Clyro and Senses Fail, at London Astoria on March 19th 2004**

Ok, this was fab. I went avec Stephanie und Fran... we got there a little late so had to wait in a mammoth queue, but was fun anyway. I got offered my first ever weed! Soz, I know it sounds random, but it's a big thing! Hehe anyway, by the time we got in Senses Fail were pretty much finished, but the end of their set sounded a little crappy anyway so I'm not all that gutted tbh. We decided to go up onto the balconey - actually had a damn good view up there, with jiggle room as well! Biffy were on top form, of course, and then it was HR. Who were immense. Like before. It was a pretty similar set actually, but I was sooo not bothered... all in all I really enjoyed myself. Got some good piccies too, which I might scan on at some stage. Hmmm...

**Serafin, supported by Oceansize and The Suffragettes, at the Underworld on March 3rd 2004**

ok, I went w/Becki, and amazingly we found our way there ok (Becki n I have a history of not listening to crucial directions, so considering we were Fran-less it is no mean feat that we managed to get there w/out incident.) We loitered in the Worlds End pub next door for a bit, which, incidently, is a fab pub n I wish there was one like it in Watford. Although admittedly the main reason that I liked it was coz it wasn't overrun w/Kevs, and this was coz it was in Camden n before a grungee gig. Anywayyy... saw some of the boardies briefly, and a cute med student (Dr Ed, if you're out there... sign the guestbook!)... then went in. Was a cute little venue... another of the gems in Camden that you wouldn't notice if you just wandered past. Anyway, didn't see the Suffragettes, but I got the impression that we didn't miss much - we were too busy getting groovy little book thingys from Darryn n the newly afroed Ben FS, and I got an oobercool stonysleep CD from Laurence (ty!). Then Oceansize were better than I remembered from Kinesis, but still not good enough for me to want to run out and buy their stuff. Then on came Serafin. Who were immense. Of course. They played the ENTIRE album - yes, that inc. Peaches From Spain, which sounded surprisingly good live. and they did Drug Dog Handler and finished on my fave, Spanish Water. All in all, a wicked gig.

**Hundred Reasons, Sixth, Coheed&Cambria, and Million Dead, part of the NME week, at London Astoria on February 10th 2004**

I went w/Fran and Clem - we left majorly early coz Clem wanted prime position for Coheed. And I wanted the wall (wasn't in a moshing mood). So that meant plently of time queueing to consume a few alcopops. Except that Fran and Clem weren't in the mood for that, so I ended up consuming rather more than a few. Ah well, all in the name of fun. However, as a result, I can't tell you much about Million Dead, Coheed or Sixth apart from the fact that MD frontman was wearing a cool hat, n Coheed n Sixth used some flashy lights that aggravated me somewhat. But anyway, by the time HR came on I was as good as sober... well, perhaps thats exaggerrating, but I was at the most tipsy. So I really enjoyed their set - they played a few new songs, and the best of the rest, inc. What Thought Did (my fave *grins*) Am really looking forward to seeing them again. Woooo!

**InMe, at London Astoria as part of K-Fest 2003, on December 18th 2003**

Ok, I went with Ariene (she's a new one, i hear you think - she's a fellow Oxfam-er n has actually been to a fair few of the gigs I've been too... just not with me!). The backing banded were... X-Is-Loaded - didn't think a whole lot of them tbh, altho they did dedicate one of their songs to some groupies who followed them from Liverpool, which i thought was cute. Then it was Crackout, who i thought were immense. Impressed me much more than I had anticipated - am def going CD hunting in the near future. Then InMe. I was pretty near the front (only like one back from the barrier) so i had a good view - NEWFLASH - they've all got new hair! Daves AND Joes is now short n spiky (Dave looks good, but i prefered Joes old cut) and Si's is all long n ruffly accompanied w/a brand new chin stud thing. Looks f.i.n.e. The music was good too of course - they did a few new songs, which was cool, but all the classics like Gelosea n Underdose, altho they omitted Gently Hurting in favour of new stuff *sob* anyway, we hung around afterwards for a bit w/some takeaway Chinese - we managed to totally not notice Dave n Joe come out (how they evaded our notice, I dont know, but they did - we suddenly noticed that all the crowds around the back door were gone!) but we managed to catch Si. It was nice - everyone else had gone, n we had him all to ourselves (apart from this barmy Japanese girl and Si's brother, who, incidently, had a Mitts-like aura and had a certain fondness for Ari!). Si was lovely, as per usual - gave us backstage passes - the thought was what counts, altho they were pretty much useless seeing as the gig was over. Hasn't stopped me putting it on my InMe wall tho! hehe he signed my top too, so its now complete! wooooo! I've just realised i didnt actually write all that much about the gig itself... ah well, u can imagine what it was like. This is my 8th InMe experience after all!

**Muse, at Wembly Arena, on November 27th 2003**

I went with Fran, Stephanie, Will (i dont have to be nice to him any more coz he doesnt have the ticket power! mwah ha ha ha ha etc etc) and Lou. Erm... Martin Grech and Elbow were supporting... didn't really think much of them - just used their sets to get as close to the front as poss... which we managed pretty well - i was only a couple of people back from the barrier by the time the lights went down, the marching at the beginning of Apolcalpse Now began and Muse came onstage. I moved back after a couple of songs tho with Steph, coz it was a little too intense at the front, and besides - I wanted room for some air guitar/piano/drums! Erm... Hysteria was awesome, as was Hurricanes and Butterflies, Stolkholme Syndrome (which they finished on) and really all of it... my fave prob has to be Plug in Baby tho, even if only for the air guitar value. Anyway, with huge confetti balloons, lotsa little black balloons AND confetti jets, this may have to be my fave concert experience ever.

**Kinesis, at the Garage, on 5th October 2003**

I went with Ed, Dave, Jen, Lav... theyre Serafin boardie ppl in case u don't know. Id never been to the Garage before... was pretty cool - a bit like Dingwalls i think. i liked it. Anyway, the first band were Fly Lo Radio (or something to that effect) - I enjoyed their set - theyre ob. v new, but was good stuff. Then there was a Muse lookalike OceanSize or something... was bored by them if im gonna be totally honest. then there was Kinesis... what i saw of the set was really good. 'forever reeling' had a really good vibe... n its just a great song. but then i had to leave early for various reasons (which sucks!) so didnt get to see the whole set. but im sure it was great. incidently, more guys should go for that blue jeans-tight white t shirt-messy dark hair look, coz its grrreat.

**Serafin, at Mean Fiddler, on 23rd September 2003**

hmmm, first things first - it was free! Yup, as free as they come. It was a promo week for new/up n coming British bands i think. Anyway, it doesn't matter. I went with Becki (yes, her first proper gig experience) and Fran (surprised?! didnt think so... hehe) we skived games to go n see David Blaine in a box... i know we're such rebels... but it really wasn't that thrilling. He's just sitting... in a box. Moving swiftly onto the gig. I saw a load of the Serafin boardies at the start, which was cool (gave me the unusual feeling of being wanted... lol) Ok, so the gig. Can't remember what the first band were called, or, indeed, whether they were any good. They certainly didn't make an impact. Then Bookoo Movement. I actually thought they were pretty good (despite certain boardies ranting on about their naff-ness) although i have yet to find any of their songs to d/l. Ah well, i will survive. Then there was The Koreans... the front man was a tad odd, but kinda cool (met him afterwards... def better in person than on stage). Erm anyway, Im getting bored, so onto Serafin. They. Were. Awesome. What did u think i was gonna say?! they played all the goodies... n despite there not being a v big Mean Fiddler crowd, a good pit was created n a good atmosphere too. So yeah, a good gig.

**Serafin, at the Barfly, on 30th May 2003**

ok.... the gig was AWESOME... I've gotta try n rack my brains n remember what happened coz it was a couple of weeks ago now, n I was quite tipsy at the time... hmmm I went up to this one on my lonesome, but met up w/the boardies there which was nice :o) i missed the backing bands coz I was doing the street-team thing n giving out stickers n stuff (n talking to a few scrummy blokes too... remind me to do that again some time! hehe) but was up in the stage room thing for Serafin's set on the front left hand side as I was the time before too. Serafin went all out for this set - played most of the really energetic ones like Cowboy Song n Day by Day n Lethargy n Build High Tear Low (but no Spanish Water *sob*) n they finished on No Happy. Wooo! Unfortunatly I couldnt hang around for long afterwards, coz the set went on for a while, n I had to go back with the other boardies coz I didn't know the way to the station alone :os ah well! the albums out soon - wooo!

**Serafin, at the Barfly, on 23rd May 2003**

ok, lets start from the beginning (its usually a good place to start after all!) I went up w/Fran, a cancelled train making us a little late but it didnt matter... after a smirnoff or two in the bar downstairs and a free cd we waddled up to the gig area, which is basically a room about as big as my lounge w/a small bar at one end and a stage at the other - wicked or what?! anyway the first back up band started pretty quickly, can't remember what they were called but they werent all that bad, altho the lead singer was a little bit weird :os then the 2nd backing band came on - one Sid Vicious wannabe, a Murderdolls castoff, a fat hockey player, a guy w/a mohawk and a cleam metaller boy - so, as u can prob guess, they were a little shite. But I endured them from the front coz I wanted to be as close to Serafin as poss, of course. Then there was Serafin... they were awesome, as per usual. Ben FS was just hypnotic, Darryn was insane n Mitzy was all excitable (it was his birthday so hes allowed to be!) Day by Day and No Happy created the best feeling n a mini pit in the crowd... the set was just amazing. Then we wandered back downstairs again for more drinks (I had a Jack Daniels and Coke - remind me never to have that again! eurgh!) anyway we wished Mitzy a happy birthday (he was just lovely!) and got piccies w/Darryn (he said he loved my home doodled Serafin vesttop - I even gotta kiss for it!) and piccies w/Ben FS too. all in all it was a great evening - cant wait for next week!

**Game On, 22nd June 2003, at the Dome**

This was actually pretty good - I initially only went to see InMe, but there was a lot more to it. I went with Clem and Fran... we saw a fair bit of skating - I was backing the Reaction skate team coz of a particular really good (n incidently really fit!) skater called Leo... they came 2nd! Woohoo! Bandwise, I saw Violent Delight, who were better than expected - I met the singer afterwards who insulted me (I was wearing my InMe vest top so I suppose I had that coming... lol), n I also saw the Androids (that bassist is even fitter in real life!) but I've gotta say they weren't all that great... :os later on I saw Kelly Osbourne get booed off stage - I actually felt pretty sorry for me, I mean, she was just at the wrong sort of festival - she should be doing Party in the Park or something like that, then she'd be alright. Then, of course, were InMe... I had a perfect spot at the front next to Joe *sigh* they weren't at their best, but it was nice seeing them after so long. mmmmm

**Biffy Clyro, 14th June 2003, at Mean Fiddler**

I wasn't overly keen on going to begin with, but coz I couldn't persuade anyone to go to Kinesis with me, I ended up at this with Stephanie, Will n Fran and actually really enjoyed it. The first backing band was Lucky 7... there were, to put it nicely, a pile of poo - they looked like Avril Lavigne cast offs and sounded a damn sight worse... but don't woz, it got better. Instruction were up next... I had d/l a couple of their songs before the gig, n they sounded v good... n indeed they were. Are You Happy? was great, n their songs just have such catchy titles! n kuedos to them for going outside n flogging their CDs cheap afterwards! Then there was Biffy... unfortunatly I was only at the front for like one of their songs coz then I felt funny, tried to get out of the pit, n fainted. Not the most enjoyable experience! Speshly as I was hauled out by a fat sweaty guy rather than a gorge muscley one... ah well. I heard the rest of their set from the back... was still very good!

**Serafin, 28th May 2003, at Dingwalls**

As soon as me n Fran got there, we knew itd be good, coz the venue was just so small! its like an oversized pub or something! anyway, we took our positions at the front... Vega 4 came on... I had never heard any of their stuff before, but was v impressed. Its kinda mellow... n besides, for like a whole verse the lead singer just sang looking at me... there were only like 10 of us actually paying attention, so I guess its not that fantastic, but still - it made me go all weak at the knees! lol then there was Saint Rose, who were pretty shite, so I went off in search of Vega 4... whom i found... Johnny was just so lush! mmmmm anyway then there was Serafin, who were just awesome! BFS was on top form... he even had his usual bottle of wine there with him... Darryn n Mitzy looked all cute n stoned as usual, but still managed a great set. the only downers were the little drumstick stealing boy, and that Serafin half heartedly trashed their instruments at the end of their set... its worse than burning books! just dont do it! BFS was great afterwards... Mitzy was just damn cute... the others were a little up their own butts, but hey! they are good musicians!

**InMe, on 12th April 2003, at the Astoria**

hmmm ok... lets see if i can remember it... I went up with Fran... the first backing band were shite-all shouty etc n i couldn't even be bothered to find out their name... then there was Elviss who weren't quite as good as I had anticipated... then there was InMe. They were doing exactly the same set that I've seen before, but I loved it as always. I didn't have the best view (the pit was crazy as per usual, altho there was a cute guy who was making sure my head didn't get kicked in standing next to me... I think his name was Mike :os) erm then afterwards me n Fran hung around for about 20mins-we saw Dave n Joe n got piccies, n gave Joe the 'STONED' t-shirt that we had bought for him (altho we have yet to see him wearing it) and yeah. Think thats about it.

**Feeder, March 2003, at Brixton**

Hmmm admittedly I went primarily to see InMe (obsessive, I know... ah well) anywayyy Fran and I got there alright, despite being 2 defenseless girls in Brixton... lol. Serafin were up first, they were actually really good - this was when I first noticed them really, coz the sound system at MK was shite so I didn't really appreciate them there... but the pit wasn't really feeling them so I was the only person with any sort of enthusiasm. The pit got much more intense for InMe (of course!) they were great as per usual... I'm not gonna say any different though, am I?! I was right over Dave's side of the stage... he was awesome, altho Joe's bass was out of tune for his Mosiac riff, which was a shame :os erm then it was Feeder... by this stage I was sick of the pit n had made my way to the bogs at the back, only to find BFS and Darryn from Serafin watching at the back too! So that was cool... altho I had used up my last shots on my camera taking crappy pics of InMe... damnit! anyway, then I was too scared to make my way back to the front in case InMe slipped in the back too, so I'm afraid I can't report much on the Feeder set, coz I could barely hear them n I wasn't really listening... isn't that great.

**Neptune videoshoot, February 2003, in London**

OK, this wasn't really a gig, I know, but hey! It's going on this page anyway... I went up with Fran n Dave... we got there like a half hour before they asked us to be there, n then had to wait in the cold for like 2 hours... we were so cold that by the time we got inside, we were shivering so bad that we couldn't even sign our own names properly. then we were inside... firstly we were the left hand side of the mosh pit... then the right hand side... then the balconies... so altho in the video the place looks packed, it wasn't - we were just shuffled around a lot. hmmm the director, Harv, was just THE dude... totally cool... erm all of our boys were stoned (as usual) we even saw them smoking... they all looked extremely bored... the only one that was remotely happy was Si... all Dave did was get his makeup checked (rofl) hmmmm what else?! oh yeah afterwards we hung aorund outside for hours w/the other freaky InMe stalkers... there was one girl from Liverpool who was just scary, n a goth guy who seemed really cool until the band actually came out, then he went mental (Fran knows who I mean) anyway, after a couple of hours of Dave whinging (he was only wearing a t-shirt coz he didn't wanna bring a hoodie coz it chaffs on his waist or something crappy like that... lol!) we saw Joe, Si AND Dave... they were all lovely as per usual... Si especially - he's just sooo hugable!

**InMe, on 31st January 2003, at the Woughton Centre**

This was an awesome gig. I went with Fran, Jem, Dave, Will, Stephanie and Tom... its always nice in a big buncha people :o) anyway it was in a like school gym type thing which gives it a totally different atmosphere... but unfortunatly it was filled with a load of mini-moshers... altho they were easy to elbow out of the way to get to the front, they were also irratating as there seemed to be one crowdsurfing over my head every 10 seconds. anyway, the music... Serafin were on first... I've gotta admit they didn't impress me much, but that was mostly due to their sound equipment being shite, so couldnt hear BFS above the sound of the out of tune bass. Then there was Biffy Clyro... they were pretty good - they always do a good live set. Then there was InMe... this was the first time that I had seen them properly, so of course I thought it was amazing. I had been listening to their album all week, so was v excited when they played Mosaic, n I was right there at the front to see Joe do his cute little riff ;o) *sigh* although he was wearing rather slashed jeans so we could see his knobbly little knees through them... see all of Frans pics for more. Rofl. Anywayyy... then me n Dave couldnt get a taxi back afterwards, so we were stuck there in the snow... it was freezing! but then Si came out of their tour bus... i didnt even recognise him at first... he was totally lovely... n then he went off to get Joe n Dave who were scrummy little blokeys too... lovely evening. oh, apart from the whole having to get parents out of bed at 1am due to me being stranded in Milton Keynes. Ahem.

**Taproot, at the Mean Fiddler, Jan 2003**

ok, i can remember worringly little about this gig which would suggest it wasnt that memorable. I went w/Lizzi, Will, Lou, Tom, Dave and Dan... I think Lizzi lurked in a corner n touched the guitarist (or something) Will n Lou were the hard-core pit-people and I sort of hovered on the edge of the pit talking to some scrummy Scottish blokes. Thats really all I can remember... cant even think of the backing bands! Whoops!

**A and Goldfinger, at Brixton, Nov 2002**

I went with Dave... I really wanted to see Goldfinger and Hell is for Heroes... this was my first time at Brixton and I thought it was awesome! Really like the venue - its a surreal place to be in - my dream is to see Foo Fighters there, coz it would be a lovely place for Dave Grohl to propose to me (in my dreams!) anyway, the gig. Voodoo Glow Skulls were on first... what can I say - a metaller lead singer, 2 punky guitarists, a kev drummer and 2 trumbones just don't go well together! But luckily their set was short and over quickly. Then Hell is for Heroes... this was pretty good - motivated me to d/l all of their songs, but wasn't quite good enough for me to actually shell out money and buy the album. Goldfinger then were awesome - the lead singer went a bit mental, which is always highly amusing to watch! and their songs created such a good vibe too - 99 Red Balloons, Superman, Open Your Eyes - theyre all brill! And finally A weren't as bad as I thought they could have been - their songs were much better than I had anticipated and their not chart sell-outs at all!

**Foo Fighters, at Wembley Arena, on Nov 22nd 2002**

Ok, it was Foos, what more can I say?! I went w/Becki, Stephanie and Debz... we had seated ticks right up the back on the left hand side, so admittedly it wasnt the best view :os anyway Cave In opened - we felt really sorry for them coz the mosh pit was totally dead, and there was no atmosphere... but its gotta be hard opening for a band like Foos at the best of times. Then there was a little wait while we amused ourselves by embarassing Debz... mwah ha ha! anywayyy Foos opened with All My Life - they started behind a huge curtainy thingy, and I started hyperventilating! just the mere presence of Dave Grohl meant that I had to sit down... quite embarassing really if u consider that when the curtain came down u couldnt even really tell that it was Dave Grohl - I just assumed the white blob at the front of the stage was him! anyway, they did a really cool really long version of my fave Stacked Actors, and Breakout was particularly memorable as the whole crowd (and Wembley was packed so thats a lot of ppl!) sang the chorus unaccompanied.... ohhh the memories! Other amusements during the gig was the drunk dude and the bet we had on whether he was gonna try n pull Debz or whether he was going to throw up on her... as i said, amusing! Hehe anyway... I think thats all there is to say about that one.

Tell me when your wishes fall apart, do you turn to nothing?
